Indira Ekadashi is celebrated on the day of Ekadashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. Indira Ekadashi falls in Pitru Paksha, which is a time specially dedicated to ancestors, hence this day is also called Ekadashi Shradh. The main purpose of this Ekadashi fast is to give salvation to ancestors or dead ancestors so that they can get freedom from sufferings. It is best to observe a fast on Indira Ekadashi to get rid of sins and to seek forgiveness of wrongdoings. Indira Ekadashi Vrat is a special festival celebrated by the devotees of Lord Vishnu.

Indira Ekadashi will be celebrated on Wednesday, 21st September, on this day Shradh of Ekadashi date will also be completed. On the day of Indira Ekadashi, those who observe this fast perform the rites of Shradh. The devotees should observe the fast by following the rules and rituals to get maximum benefits. Lord Vishnu is worshiped with enthusiasm on this day. Devotees offer tulsi leaves, flowers and fruits along with the necessary puja material to the Lord. On this day, devotees go to the temple of Shri Vishnu and do worship works.

Indira Ekadashi fasting rules
The fast of Indira Ekadashi starts a day before i.e. from Dashami Tithi. Rituals are performed and prayers are offered for the dead ancestors on Dashami. The food is eaten before sunrise as the devotees observe fast on the day of Ekadashi. The fast starts from sunrise and ends on Dwadashi the next day after worshiping Lord Vishnu.It falls on the day of Pitru Paksha, food is offered to Brahmins before having food.

 On Indira Ekadashi, devotees get up before sunrise. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Lord is praised by Vedic chants and hymns. Those who observe this fast wake up at night and worship God. The story of Lord Vishnu is heard. Reciting Vishnu Sahasranama is also considered auspicious. On this day, special rituals and prayers are performed in the memory of the deceased ancestors. The afternoon time is considered favorable for the worship of ancestors.

Dwadashi ending moment will be on 23rd September, 2022 at 1:18.
