Indira Ekadashi will be celebrated on Wednesday, 21st September, on this day Shradh of Ekadashi date will also be completed. The food is eaten before sunrise as the devotees observe fast on the day of Ekadashi. The fast starts from sunrise and ends on Dwadashi the next day after worshiping Lord Vishnu.It falls on the day of Pitru Paksha, food is offered to Brahmins before having food.

 On Indira Ekadashi, devotees get up before sunrise. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Lord is praised by Vedic chants and hymns. Those who observe this fast wake up at night and worship God. The story of Lord Vishnu is heard. Reciting Vishnu Sahasranama is also considered auspicious. On this day, special rituals and prayers are performed in the memory of the deceased ancestors. The afternoon time is considered favorable for the worship of ancestors.
