Krishna Janmashtami Vrat Story

“Sometimes dharmasya glanirbhavati bharat, abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srijamayam”. Whenever there is a loss of religion on earth and the outbreak of unrighteousness starts increasing, then God Himself incarnates and puts an end to that tyranny. Similarly, God incarnates in all the four Yugas and follows Dharma and destroys unrighteousness. Bhoj dynasty king Ugrasen used to rule in the Dwapar era. The character of King Ugrasen was religious. But his son was very picky and adharm follower. Whose name was Kansa. Kansa considered himself to be a god. The religious men and the sadhus were being harmed by Kansa . King Ugrasen could not teach Kansa the path of dharma even after lakhs of efforts.

Seeing the increasing tyranny of Kansa day by day, there was an outcry in the kingdom of Mathura. Those who had been living on religion were now finding it difficult to even breathe and the sway of unrighteousness had increased.

Know who was Krishna's sister?

Kansa had a sister whose name was Devaki, she got her sister married to the Yaduvanshi king Vasudev. Vasudeva was a scholar of religion. When Kansa left his sister to take her to her in-laws' house, there was an Akashvani on the way. There was a loud speech in that Akashvani that Kansa, now your end is near. Devaki's eighth child will be the cause of your death. And by that you will be killed. Hearing this, Kansa was deeply hurt and knowing that his life was in danger, he tried to kill Devaki and Vasudeva at the same time. Then Devaki said that how can that little child kill you. Still, if this happens, I will sacrifice my entire son to you and you save my life and that of my husband.

On being told by Devaki, Kansa agreed and imprisoned his father Ugrasen and put him in prison. Kansa had also imprisoned Devaki and Vasudev.

As time passed, as soon as Devaki was pregnant, Kansa raised her guard and said that as soon as a son or daughter is born, it should be immediately delivered to me.
Let us know what is the importance of this story in Hindu religion, and why should we know it?

Seeing it, Devaki's 6 sons Kansa put them to death. Now the time had come for the incarnation of God, at this time Devaki was appointed as the eighth pregnancy and Kansa increased the vigilance of Devaki and Vasudeva.

Lord Shri Krishna was born on the Ashtami day of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada Maha and as soon as he was born, Vasudev had a vision of a divine power and was inspired to take the child Krishna to Vrindavan. Then Vasudeva saw that he had shackles in his hands and feet. There were guards at the gate. But as soon as Vasudev stood up, all his shackles were opened and all the gatekeepers who were there all went into sleep.

Vasudev, crossing the Yamuna river, went to Vrindavan, kept his son Balakrishna at Yashoda's place and from there returned to the prison, taking back the daughter born to Yashoda. As soon as Lord's Leela ended, everyone came to know that Devaki had given birth to the eighth child. Then Kansa immediately reaches there and rejoices that now I will kill the eighth child and I will become immortal and that Akashvani will be proved false. Thinking so much, as soon as Kansa slams that girl on a stone rock, that girl appears as the only divine goddess after getting released from Kansa's hand and says to Kansa, O Kansa! Your end is near. Your killer has taken birth in this world and he has reached Vrindavan safely. Now wait for your death. Saying this, that divine light gets absorbed.

Know what justice Vashudev ji did to Kansa?

Now Kansa started fearing for his life and started torturing Devaki and Vasudeva. Then Vasudev said that whatever our daughter was born, I have given it to you and apart from this we do not know anything and yes, whoever is the gatekeeper in your prison, ask them if anyone had come in or had come out of any such incident. Has not happened.

Here as soon as Yashoda comes to know that his son has been born here. So Nandram ji and Yashoda are very happy and they celebrate this day as a grand festival in the whole village. Now Lord Shri Krishna slowly started growing up and started creating many Leelas in child form. His Leela was liked by everyone and everyone used to be convinced by seeing his form. His image was adorable. That is why in childhood Lord Krishna was chanted by many names like Madan Mohan, Madan Gopal, Bal Krishna, Laddu Gopal, Makhan Chor etc. The people started getting happy by calling Lord Krishna. Due to these pastimes, Lord Shri Krishna is remembered even today. And he is worshiped with reverence.
