The festival of Gopashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.  It is also known as Gopashtami.  On the day of Gopashtami, gratitude is expressed to cows by taking a pledge to protect, worship and serve them.  The festival of Gopashtami will end on November 1.  It is full of festivals.  Every year cows are worshiped across the country on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.  The tradition of worshiping cow and God is going on from Sanatan Dharma since ancient times.

Cow is considered very revered.  It is said that all 33 crore gods and goddesses of Hinduism reside in the cow.  Worshiping and serving the cow on this day removes all kinds of troubles, as well as brings happiness and prosperity in the house.  On the day of Gopashtami, gratitude is expressed towards cows by taking a pledge to protect, promote and serve them.  But do you know how the celebration of this festival started?  So let's know its mythology, auspicious time and worship method...

Auspicious time
The festival of Gopashtami is celebrated on Ashtami Tithi.  Ashtami Tithi will start from 30 October and Ashtami Tithi will end on 01 November 2022 at 11:04 pm.  On this day Bhadra will end in the afternoon.  On the day of Gopashtami, cows and calves are given bath after waking up early in the morning.  After this, henna, turmeric, roli are applied to the cow  with our hands.  After that the cow is worshiped with incense, lamp, fragrance, flowers, akshat, roli, jaggery, clothes etc.  In the end the cows are worshipped and fed fodder.

According to mythological beliefs, after worshiping the cow, one should walk around it for some distance.  After this, the feet of Gaumata should be touched and  applied on the forehead.  By doing this, happiness and good fortune increase, as well as the grace of Lord Vishnu is also obtained.

Gopashtami festival story
According to the story described in Shrimad Bhagwat Purana, when Shri Krishna was at the age of six, expressed his desire to play with and take care of the cow to Mother Yashoda, he said that on this Mother Yashoda explained to him that when ithe auspicious time would come.  I will definitely make you Gopal.  At the same time sage Shandilya reached there and seeing the future of Shri Krishna, he performed cow-charan on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.  Since then the festival of Gopashtami is still celebrated with reverence and enthusiasm.
