Lepakshi temple in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh is famous all over the world for hanging pillars. More than 70 pillars of this temple hanging without any support and are handling the temple. These unique pillars of the temple are a big mystery for the millions of tourists who come here every year. Devotees coming to the temple believe that if you succeed to pass a cloth under these pillars it brings happiness and prosperity in your life. The scientists tried hard to unravel this mystery, but they could not succeed.

However some people say that there is a dance pavilion in the center of this temple. There are a total  70 pillars on this pavilion, out of which 69 pillars are as they should be. But 1 pillar is completely different from the others, because this pillar is in the air i.e. it is attached to the roof of the building, but a few centimeters away from ground. With the changing time, this wonder has become a recognition. It is said that if a person takes a cloth from this side of the pillar to the other side, then his wish is fulfilled.

Temple Story:-

Lord rama, Lakshmana and Sita came here during exile. When Ravana kidnapping Sita and taking her to Lanka with him, then Jatayu fought with Ravana and fell at the place where temple was made after getting injured. Later, when Shriram arrived here in search of Sita, he embraced Jatayu by calling him 'Le Pakshi'. Le Pakshi is a Telugu word that means 'utho pakshi'.

According to mythological beliefs, this temple was built by the sage Augstya. But according to historians, the temple was built in 1583 by two brothers (Virupanna and Veeranna) who worked for the king of Vijayanagara. However, to know the secret of the temple, the British tried to shift it, but they were unsuccessful. An engineer tried to break the temple to find out its secret, and found that all the pillars of the temple hanging in the air.

This temple is built for Lord Shiva, Vishnu and Veerabhadra. Different temples of the three Gods are also present here. A large Nagling statue is located in the temple complex, which is made of a single stone. It is considered to be the biggest Nagling statue of India. This idol made of black granite stone, a seven-faced snake sits on top of a Shivling.

It is said that the temple has Rampadam (according to the belief the footprints of Shriram) are located here, while many believe that it is the footprints of Sita. On the other hand, these footprints are said to be the footprints of Lord Hanuman. There are many beliefs about these footprints. Some say that it is the foot of Goddess Durga, some believe it to be the mark of Shri Ram, but those who know the history of this temple consider it to be the foot of Sita.

It is believed that after Jatayu was injured, Sita came to the ground and left this footprint on her own and assured Jatayu that until Lord Rama comes here, the water here will continue to give life to Jatayu. It is believed that this is the place where Jatayu told Shri Ram the address of Ravana. There is a wonderful Shivling present here Ramalingeswara which was established by Lord Rama himself after Jatayu's last rites. Another Shivling nearby is Hanumanalingeshwar. It is said that after Shree Ram, Hanuman also established Lord Shiva here.
