 Rishi Panchami is considered an auspicious festival in Hinduism. This day is dedicated to show respect and reverence to all the sages of India. Sapta Rishis are mainly worshiped on Rishi Panchami. Dedicated to these seven great sages, this festival also holds a leading position in the Guru tradition. Rishi Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. This year it is being celebrated on 1st September 2022. Gurus are worshiped on this day across the country and devotion is expressed towards the sages. By getting knowledge from Lord Shiva, the Saptarishis made their special contribution in the welfare of the universe.

Rishi Panchami Significance
This festival is associated with the Saptarishis who sacrificed their lives to kill the evil from the earth and worked for the betterment of the people. The names of the great Saptarishis are Vasistha, Jamadagni, Gautam, Vishwamitra, Bharadwaja, Atri and Kashyapa. These great saints were highly religious and taught their devotees to follow the right path of goodness and humanity. In Hindu beliefs and scriptures, it is mentioned that these sages passed on their knowledge and devotion to their devotees so that everyone could follow the path of charity, humanity and knowledge.

Rishi Panchami Story
According to the scriptures, there was a Brahmin named Uttanka who lived with his wife Sushila. His daughter was a widow who lived with him. One night, the daughter's body was covered with many ants, which worried the mother and father. Therefore, he called a sage who could help him come out of this situation. The worried father asked the sage the reason for his daughter's early widowhood and the reason for her sufferings. The sage said that he is suffering from this worst condition because of the deeds of his previous birth. The sage told him that in a previous life he had entered the house of worship during the menstrual cycle. After asking the remedy, the sage suggested the daughter to observe a fast on Rishi Panchami for the purification of her soul and body so that she could be freed from all her present and past sins. He did what the sage suggested him to do and the girl kept the fast of Rishi Panchami with full devotion and dedication and this helped her to purify her soul and body from all kinds of sins and past defects.

Rishi Panchami Puja
Devotees wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. On this day some people observe Rishi Panchami fast. Devotees worship the Saptarishi of the seven great sages. To invoke the presence of all the seven rishis, prayers and many sacred things like flowers and puja materials are offered.
