According to the legend of Shiv Purana, the demon king Dambh had no children. He did hard penance to Lord Vishnu to get a child. Pleased with the severe penance of the demon king, Lord Vishnu asked him to ask for a boon. Then the conceit asked for the boon of the mighty son. Vishnu ji disappeared by saying 'Tatastu'. After this, a son was born to Dambh, whose name was Shankhchud.
Shankhchud had done severe penance
Shankhchud did severe penance in Pushkar to please Brahmaji. Pleased with his penance, Brahmadev asked him to ask for a boon. So Shankhchud asked him to become invincible to the gods. Brahmaji, saying aastu, gave him Shri Krishna Kavach. After this, Brahmaji, pleased with Shankhchud's penance, disappeared by ordering him to marry Tulsi, the daughter of Dharmadhwaj. The marriage of Tulsi and Shankhchud was completed by the order of Brahma.
Shivaji also failed to kill
After getting the boon of Bramhaji, Shankhchud came into the ego and established his mastery over the three worlds. Distressed by Shankhchud, the gods went to Vishnu and asked for help, but Lord Vishnu himself had given the boon of a conceited son. That's why Vishnu worshiped Shankar, after which Shiva went to protect the gods. But because of Shri Krishna Kavach and Tulsi's virtuous religion, even Shiva was not able to kill him.
Was born from bones, conch was born
Being able to kill, Vishnu ji took the form of a Brahmin, took his Krishna armor from the demon king and took the form of conch shell and took away the modesty of Tulsi. After this Lord Shiva killed Shankhchud with his trident. It is believed that conch was born from his bones and he was a dear devotee of Vishnu. This is the reason that it is very auspicious to offer water to Lord Vishnu with a conch, while Lord Shankar had killed him, hence the use of conch is prohibited in the worship of Shankar.
