There are many temples of Lord Suryadev, who is called the soul of the world. Which Konark Sun Temple of Odisha is world-famous. But today we will tell you about a temple that is 200 years older than the Konark temple. This is a unique temple in itself because this temple was constructed in just one night. The idol of Lord Suryadev in every temple is made of some stone or some metal. But, the idol of Lord Sun God in this temple is neither made of stone nor any metal, but the idol of Lord Suryadev in this temple is made of wood from a growing tree.
This temple of Lord Suryadev is situated in AdheliSunar village of Almora district of Uttarakhand, which is called Dev Bhoomi. Which is about 16 kilometers from Almora city. This temple is known as Katarmal Sun Temple and Bad Aditya Temple. Talking about the construction of the temple, then the face of this temple is towards the east. This temple is built on a high square platform. The main temple is built from the Triratna structure, while the square sanctum sanctorum and the shikhara are curved, which is characteristic of the Nagara style. The doors of this temple have wonderful carvings on wood.

The grandeur and vastness of this temple attract the devotees towards it. This temple is situated amidst tall deodar trees after crossing the mountain terrace. This temple was built between the 6th to 9th centuries by King Katarmal of the Katyuri Dynasty in just one night. According to the legend, when the sage Muni was absorbed in his penance in the Kandras of Uttarakhand in Satyuga, the demons used to torture him and disturb his penance. Once upon a time, when troubled by the tyranny of the Asuras, the sages living on Mount Dunagiri, Mount Kashaya, and Kanjar worshiped Lord Suryadev on the banks of the Kosi river. Seeing his severe penance, Lord Suryadev freed him from the tyranny of the demons by giving him a darshan. Lord Surya Dev had installed his effulgence on Vatshila to protect the sages. That is why in this temple Lord Suryadev is seated on an idol made of wood. When this temple was built by King Katarmal between the 6th to 9th centuries, since then this place has come to be known as Katarmal Sun Temple. Lord Suryadev is the lord of nine planets. One of the Adipancha Devas, Sunrise God, who rides in a chariot of red color and seven horses, is considered to be all-beneficent, all-motivator, and all-illuminator. Sun God is the only god who is considered to be visible in Kaliyuga.
Life in this world is due to the light of the Sun God, so he is called "the soul of the world". This is the only temple of Lord Suryadev in which he is worshiped in the form of an idol made of a Bad tree. Along with the temple of Lord Surya, there are 45 small and big temples here. The temples of Lord Shri Ganesh, Lakshmi Narayan, Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Narasimha are included.
