Vaman Dwadashi 2024: Significance, Puja Vidhi, and Mantra

Vaman Dwadashi Tithi

Vaman Dwadashi is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Dwadashi (12th day) of the Chaitra month. On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his Vamana avatar (dwarf form). According to mythological beliefs, worshipping Vamana Bhagwan on this day provides protection to devotees.

On Vaman Dwadashi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his Vamana avatar. Lord Vishnu took the Vamana avatar to reclaim the three lokas (worlds) from King Bali. The puja performed on this day bestows Trigunatmak Shakti (power of the three gunas) upon devotees.

Significance of Vamana Avatar

The scriptures mention many incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Each incarnation of Lord Shri Hari has been associated with new aspects of life and a series of auspicious events. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Vamana Bhagwan was the fifth of the ten incarnations of Vishnu. He took birth in this avatar in the Treta Yuga. He took this avatar to reclaim the three lokas from King Bali.

Vaman Dwadashi Puja Vidhi 2024

Vaman Dwadashi is celebrated as the day of Lord Vishnu's Vamana avatar. On this day, primarily Lord Vishnu's incarnation Vamana Bhagwan is worshipped. On Vaman Dwadashi, devotees wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and prepare for puja. They spread a yellow cloth on a चौकी (pedestal) and install an image of Lord Vishnu's Vamana avatar. They offer Roli, flowers, incense lamp, Naivedya (food offering), etc. to Vamana Bhagwan. It is considered auspicious to offer Lord Vamana Dahi (yogurt) and Mishri (sweet crystal sugar) as bhog. After puja, it is auspicious to recite the aarti, mantra, and stotra of the Vamana avatar and listen to the katha (story).
