The Nav Samvatsari. The New Year of our country India starts with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Vikram Samvat and Shaka Samvat are the hallmarks of the Indian New Year. Both these Samvatsar is based on the rotations of the Sun and Moon and is completely scientific. Our Samvatsaris considered to be one of the oldest in the world and it is also scientifically correct. Yudhishthira era was prevalent at the beginning of Kali Yuga. Vikram Samvat also predates the English calendar. Along with India, countries like China, Egypt, Persia, Greece, Rome, and Babylonia used to have their own Samvatsaras. The Chinese calendar dates back to 163 BC. When the Greeks conquered Egypt, they started their Unani Samvatsara. All these Samvatsars are before the British era and everyone celebrates the new year in their respective countries according to their respective Samvat. It is unfortunate that 75 years of independence are about to happen but we all have not been completely free from their mental slavery, that is why the English calendar is more prevalent. This calendar has had such an impact on India that we have almost forgotten the original New Year of our country i.e. Nav Samvatsar. Today Indian Nav Samvatsar is celebrated only in a few places. It is believed that New Year was celebrated on 1st April by the British all over the world, but over a period of time, many places started celebrating from 1st January, which is still the most popular in the whole world. The Vikram Samvat started in India 75 years before the English New Year. When Emperor Kanishka expelled the foreign terrorists from India, he started the Shaka era on this occasion.
