Vrishabha Sankranti's Mythological Importance
The Sanskrit term 'Vrishabh' means 'bull,' and in Hinduism, Lord Shiva's chariot, 'Nandi,' is a bull. The celebration of Vrishabha Sankranti has tremendous religious importance for Hindu followers since religious books establish a connection between these two in some form or another. On this auspicious day, people worship Lord Vishnu in order to receive the blessings of a happy and prosperous life. On this day, devotees worship Lord Surya Dev with devotion, since the Sun is the soul of the earth, ensuring the cycle of life. Also, pray to God on this day for salvation in life and salvation.
Vrishabha Sankranti Activities
Hindu worshippers offer donations on the fortunate day of Vrishabha Sankranti since it is the foundation of many good and virtuous activities. Donating a sacred cow to a Vedapathi Brahmin on the day of Vrishabha Sankranti, 'Godan,' is a very auspicious rite.
On this day, some devotees maintain a fast known as the 'Vrishabha Sankranti Vrat.' The Sun God bestows his benefits on those who observe this fast. One rises up before sunrise on this day and takes a holy bath. The Sun God is revered. The name 'Rishabharudar' is revered among devotees. On Vrishabha Sankranti, devotees attend Lord Vishnu's temples and pray to God for fortunate knowledge. Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri has made special arrangements for this day. A unique 'Bhog' is made on this day. The bhogis spread and eaten with other family members after praying to the Lord.
There is a large gathering of pilgrims at the pilgrimage sites on this day as worshippers take a Sankranti bath. They pay honor to the Sun God and their ancestors by taking this sacred bath. People also do PitruTarpan on Vrishabha Sankranti to bring peace to their departed ancestors.
