Ganesh Chaturthi 2021- Know How Ganesha Crushed Kuber’s Pride

The God of wealth, Lord Kubera is the one who not only distributes wealth and prosperity but also acts as a guardian of all the treasures of the world. He is worshipped by devotees so He showers his blessings upon them and their life is filled with success and riches. But do you know that once when He started taking pride in His wealth, landed him in a state of utter confusion and mess? Well yes, taking pride can often land people in a problematic situation and even Lord Kubera could not escape a situation that arose because of His vanity. He believed that He had everything that could even impress Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. Hence, He thought of inviting them to lunch so that He could show off His splendour. Thinking this, He went to Kailash parvat to invite the divine couple and requested them to accept his proposal for lunch.

Lord Shiva asked the reason for the feast he was organizing but Kuber had no answer, Shiva understood Kuber's hidden objective behind inviting them. He replied that they would not be able to come however if He is requesting so much, He’ll be sending Ganesha in their place. Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati asked Ganesha to go to Kuber’s palace for lunch which He willingly accepted. Even Lord Ganesha was aware of the purpose behind Kuber’s invitation. He took the resolution to shatter Kuber’s pride. He took His “Mooshak” along with Him.
 
Lord Ganesha and Mooshak reached Kuber’s extremely beautiful and prosperous palace. Both were welcomed graciously by Kuber and His people. Soon they were seated for lunch. People started serving both of them. To flaunt, they were being served in silver and golden plates and bowls with scrumptious food. Lord Ganesha began eating and slowly everything that was served was getting finished. As Kuber felt satisfying Ganesha would be an easy task. However, Ganesha was not full yet and He was not going to stop anytime soon. More food came but that too was finished within seconds by Him and yet he was hungry. Seeing this Kuber and other people were surprised. When there was no more food left, Ganesha began eating all the utensils and diamonds, pearls and jewels. Still, he was not full. Kuber was bewildered, but he also realized His mistake.

Terrified with Ganesha eating everything, Kuber went to Lord Shiva and joined his hands and said, I understood my mistake, and I’m very apologetic and shameful for my prideful behaviour and that my wealth is nothing infront of you. As he apologized, Shiva gave Kuber a fistful of rice and asked him to feed this to Ganesha which will satisfy his hunger, which indeed did. After this incident, Ganesha came back and was successful in teaching a lesson to the God of wealth, Kuber, that anything that is served with extreme pride can never satisfy one’s hunger and so it’s better to offer someone even less but with love and pure intention. Extreme pride can always put one in a troublesome situation.
