Why do Ganpati immersion
Many stories of this are also found in the Puranas. But there is a legend that Maharishi Ved Vyas needed such a divine soul to write the Mahabharata, who could complete it without stopping. Then Maharishi Ved Vyas went to Brahmaji and prayed to him, then he suggested getting this work done by Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom. It is believed that on the request of Maharishi Ved Vyas, Shri Ganesh wrote the Mahabharata without stopping. It took Ganapati ten days to write this. In the middle of this ten days, when Shri Ganesha was writing the Mahabharata, Maharishi Ved Vyas saw that his body was burning, so he applied clay on Vinayaka's body. Which gave him a lot of relief. After drying, Lord Ganesha took a dip in the river. It is believed that that day was the day of Anant Chaturdashi. This is the reason that on the tenth day of Ganesh Chaturthi i.e. Anant Chaturdashi, his idol is immersed according to law.

How to do Ganesh Visarjan
The idol of Ganapati is immersed on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. Before immersing the idol of Ganapati, his idol is worshiped according to the law. After offering coconut, fruits, flowers, modaks etc. to Ganapati, one should chant their mantras and perform aarti. After this, immerse the idol by taking the idol of Ganpati to the bank of a holy river or lake while chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya" with gaiety. Before immersing, pray to Ganapati that whatever mistake this Lord may have done, consider us to be innocent children and forgive us. Asking forgiveness for the mistake, invite him to come again next year and then, keeping himself safe, immerse Ganpati in a river or lake etc.
