Hariyali Amavasya, also known as Sawan Amavasya or Shravan Amavasya, is an important festival celebrated on the new moon day in the month of Shravan according to the Hindu calendar.
The month of Shravan is seen as the beginning of the monsoon season and the symbol of greenery, which is why the festival of Shravan Amavasya is also called the festival of greenery. Hariyali Amavasya 2022 will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28. Hariyali Amavasya falls a day after Shravan Shivratri which falls on Chaturdashi Tithi and is followed by Hariyali Teej.

Rituals during Hariyali Amavasya
In Hinduism, the new moon day is dedicated to one's ancestors or ancestors.
Similarly, on the day of Hariyali Amavasya, devotees wake up early and take a bath. Thereafter, a puja is performed to please the 'Pitaras'. Special food is offered to Brahmins. The festival of Hariyali Amavasya is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In some regions, people also observe a fast on this day. Only food is served during the day after completing all the rituals of the puja.
