Shaktipeeth has special significance in Hindu religion. Every Shaktipeeth has its own story.51 Shaktipeeths have been described in Devi Purana. Out of this, 42 Shaktipeeths are in India. 4 are in Bangladesh. 2 are in Nepal and 1-1 are in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Tibet. Every Shaktipeeth has its own story. The legend of Shaktipeeth is related to Lord Shiva and his wife Mata Sati.

According to the legend, Daksha Prajapati, father of Mother Sati, performed a Mahayagya at a place named Kankhal which is known as Haridwar.
In that yagya all the gods and goddesses including Brahma, Vishnu, Indra were called but Lord Shiva was not invited. Mata Sati got information about this. To know the answer for not inviting her husband to the yagya, she reached out to Daksha. insulted them. Mother Sati, being enraged by the humiliation, sacrificed her life in the fire pit of the same yagya. When Lord Shiva got this information, he got angry and his third eye opened.
He started doing tandav and went to the place where the body of Mother Sati was. He picked up the body of Mother Sati and placed it on her shoulder. Lord Shiva's orgy continued. He turned towards Kailash. Seeing the danger of catastrophe rising on the earth, Lord Vishnu dismembered the body of Maa Sati with his Sudarshan Chakra. In this way, different parts of his body fell at different places. This happened 51 times, thus 51 Shaktipeeths were established.

Crown: His crown fell in Kiritkon village of Murshidabad in West Bengal. Here she was known as Mata Vimala.

Manikarnika: Manikarnika, the jewel of his ear fell on the Ghat of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, due to which the ghat was named Manikarnika and was known as Mata Manikarni.

Peeth/Back: Part of Goddess Sati's back fell in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.In the Shakti Peeth here, the Maa Sati was known as Sarvani.

Left buttock: The left buttock of Mother Sati fell on the banks of the Son river near Kamaladhav place in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh.

Right buttock: The right buttock of the mother fell in Amarkantak itself and from there the river Narmada originated and the mother was called Goddess Narmada.

Eyes: The eye of Goddess Sati fell in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. Here the temple of Naina Devi was built and mother Mahisha was called Mardini.

Nose: His nose fell near the Sondh river, 20 km from Shikarpur Barisal in Bangladesh. Here she was known as Mata Sunanda.

Throat: In Pahalgam near Kashmir, the throat of Mother Sati fell and she was installed as Mahamaya.

Tongue: Her tongue fell in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh and here she was called Ambika.

Left Chest: The left breast of Goddess Sati fell in a pond near Cantonment station in Jalandhan, Punjab. Here the mother was known as Tripuramalini.


Right Chest: The right breast of Goddess Sati fell in Ramgiri, Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh and she was known as Goddess Shivani.

Heart: The Ambaji temple of Gujarat is quite famous. Here her heart fell and Goddess Sati was called Ambaji.

Hair: A bunch of her hair fell in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh and she was known as Uma Devi.

Upper Molar: Her upper molar fell near the Suchitirtham Shiva temple in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Here Parvo Devi is called Narayani.

Lower Molar: The lower molar of Goddess Sati fell in Panchsagar and here she was known as Goddess Varahi.

Left foot anklet: The left foot anklet of Goddess Sati fell in Bhawanipur, Bangladesh.

Right foot anklet: The anklet of her right foot fell in Bhawanipur, Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and here she was called Devi Shri Sundari.

Left Heel: The left heel of Mata Sati had fallen in East Medinipur district in West Bengal. Here a temple was built in the name of Goddess Kapalini.

Stomach: The stomach of Goddess Sati fell in Junagadh, Gujarat.Here she was known as Chandrabhaga.

Upper lip: Her upper lip fell in Ujjayini, situated on the banks of river Kshipra in Madhya Pradesh. Here she was known as Mata Avanti.

Chin: Her chin fell in Nashik, Maharashtra. Here Goddess Sati was named as Devi Bhramari.

Cheeks: Her cheeks fell in Sarvashail Rajmahendri of Andhra Pradesh and she was called Vishweshwari Devi.

Left Toe: The toe of her left foot fell in Rajasthan's Birat, where the mother was known as Goddess Ambika.
Right shoulder: The right shoulder of Mother Sati fell in Hooghly, West Bengal and she was called Devi Kumari.

Left Shoulder: The left shoulder of Goddess Sati fell in Mithila on the Indo-Nepal border and here she was known as Goddess Uma.

Leg Bone: Sati's leg bone fell in Birbhum, West Bengal and she had Kalika Devi.

Ears: It is said that both the ears of Mother Sati fell in Karnat (Unknown place).

Central part of the body: The central part of the body of Goddess Sati in Vakreshwar, West Bengal and she was called Mahismardini.
Hands and Feet: The hands and feet of Goddess Sati fell in Khulna district of Bangladesh and here she was known as Yashoreshwari.

Lower lip: Athas of West Bengal, her lower lip dropped and she was called Devi Fullara.

Necklace: Her necklace fell in Nandipur, West Bengal, where she was known as Maa Nandani.

Payal: Her anklet fell at an ignorant place in Sri Lanka. It is said that the temple in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka was the first, which was demolished in Portuguese Bombari.
Knees: Both her knees fell near the Pashupati temple of Nepal and here she was called Goddess Mahashira.

Right Hand: The right hand of Goddess Sati fell at Mansarovar near Tibet. Here she was known as Dakshayani.

Navel: The navel of Goddess Sati fell in the Utkal of Odisha and she came to be called Devi Vimala.

Forehead: The head of the goddess fell in the Muktinath temple in Pokhara, Nepal and here she was known as Gandaki Chandi Devi.

Left hand: Mata's left hand fell in Vardhaman district of West Bengal. Here she was known as Bahula Devi. Devi's left hand had fallen.

Right Leg: The right leg of Sati fell in Tripura and she was called Tripura Sundari.

Right Arm: The right arm of Goddess Sati fell on the peak of Chandranath Parvar in Chittagong district of Bangladesh. Here she was known as Devi Bhavani.

Left leg: The left leg fell in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal and it was called Bhramari Delay.

Yoni: Her vagina fell on Nilampal mountain in Guwahati, Assam and Mother Sati was known as Goddess Kamakhya.

Right Toe: In the Vardhaman district of West Bengal, her right toe fell and she was named Devi Jugadya.

Toe: The second toe of Goddess Sati's foot fell in Kalighat, Kolkata. That place was known as Kalipeeth and mother as Maa Kalika.

Finger: The finger of Goddess Sati's hand fell in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh and she came to be called Maa Lalita there.

Left thigh: The left thigh fell in Sylhet district of Bangladesh and was known as Devi Jayanti there.

Heel of the foot: The heel of her foot fell in Kurukshetra, Haryana and she was called Mother Savitri.

Wrist: Her wrist fell in Pushkar, Ajmer and here the mother was known as Goddess Gayatri.

Throat: Her throat fell in Bangladesh itself and was known as Mahalakshmi.

Ashes: His ashes fell on the banks of Kopai river in West Bengal. She was installed as Devgarbha.

Right thigh: The right thigh fell in Patna, Bihar. It was known as Patneshwari Shaktipeeth.

Trinetra: Maharashtra Kolhapur The Trinetra of Goddess Sati fell and it is considered as a special place of Mata Mahalakshmi.
