Chaturmas is a period of four months according to the Hindu calendar, which is considered especially important for spiritual practices. Lord Shri Vishnu is in yoga sleep during the holy period of Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin and Kartik. And Lord Shiva gets all the workload at this time. Therefore, this time is considered unique for the worship of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu's devotion. Chaturmas is the time for devotion, penance, bathing in holy rivers, performing yagyas and donating. Marriages and other auspicious functions are stopped during these months. Chaturmas are not only valid in Hinduism, but the importance of Chaturmas has been very high for Jain and Buddhist sects as well. Chaturmas begins with Devshayani Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu falls asleep on this day and wakes up after four months on Prabodhini Ekadashi. Devshayani Ekadashi comes just after the famous Jagannath Rath Yatra. At this time, the month of Shravan begins, which is special for the worship of Lord Shiva. Auspicious fruits can be obtained by worshipping Shri Vishnu and Shiva on Chaturmas. The work done at this time is going to fill your life with prosperity and auspiciousness. It is best to worship Lord Shiva and Shri Vishnu early in the morning during Chaturmas. On this day one should visit the pagoda and Vishnu temple and worship the Lord. Abhishek should be done on Lord Shiva with Ganga water. Chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva regularly fulfils the wishes. Any person can do the rules to be followed at the time of Chaturmas whether he is related to Brahmachari, Grihastha, Ashramastha, Vanaprastha or Sannyasa. Spiritual and mental benefits can be obtained by any person belonging to any Varna by following the pure rules to be followed at this time. This time is the time of purification of mind and soul. By fasting performed at this time, the body gets strong energy which is good for health. Charity works are considered unique at the time of Chaturmas. Donation done on each day of these four months is supposed to bring auspiciousness to the life of the person and remove the bad effects. You can do charity work according to your ability. Donation made with a clean and pure heart has always been considered the best. Serving the living beings and having compassion for all at this time helps in taking life from good thoughts to success. Tulsi Puja should be done at the time of Chaturmas. Goddess Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu, worshiping her brings wealth, prosperity and marital happiness. The fruit of auspicious work done on Chaturmas ends sinful deeds and provides auspicious results.
