The festival of Goga Navami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Aaradhya Dev Veer Gogadev Ji Maharaj. In villages and towns, this festival is celebrated with gaiety with traditional reverence, devotion and enthusiasm as Goga Navami. Worship of Goga Dev starts from Shravani Purnima and this worship lasts for 9 days i.e. till Navami date, Goga Dev is worshiped, hence it is called Goga Navami.

According to the belief, the festival of Goga Navami is celebrated in many states. In which apart from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, it is also celebrated with great pomp in Rajasthan, because this festival is a folk festival of Rajasthan. That is why it is also called Gugga Navami. This year the Navami date of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month is falling on 20th August and this date is known as Goga Navami in the public mind. On this day the birth anniversary of Gogadev i.e. Shri Jaharveer is celebrated with great pomp. Snakes are worshiped on this day. It is believed that worshiping Goga Dev protects one from snakes.

Goga Navami Stories-
According to the legend, Goga Dev was born with the blessings of Yogi Gorakshanath of the Nath sect. Yogi Gorakshanath had given Guggal to his mother Bachhal in the form of Prasad, due to which Goga Dev Jaharveer was born from Queen Bachhal.

This festival is celebrated with great reverence and faith. On this occasion, the devotees of Baba Jaharveer (Gogaji) create an altar of the Ishta Dev in their homes and awaken the eternal light and listen to the valor and birth story of Goga Devji. This practice is called Jaharveer's Jot Katha Jagran.

How to worship on Goga Navami-

On the day of Bhadrapada Krishna Navami, wake up early in the morning and prepare food after retiring from daily tasks. Make kheer, churma, dumplings etc. for enjoyment. When women bring an idol made of clay of Veer Goga ji, they are worshipped. On the arrival of the idol, offer prasad made of tilak with roli, rice. In many places there is also a heroic idol of Goga Dev riding on a horse, which is worshipped.
Dal is placed in front of Goga's horse. It is believed that on the day of Rakshabandhan, on the day of Goga Navami, the protective thread that sisters tie to their brothers is opened and offered to Goga Dev ji.
