Diwali is called the garland of festivals.  There are a lot of festivals before and after the Diwali festival.  On the one hand, the festival of Dhanteras and Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated before the Diwali festival.  On the other hand Govardhan Puja is performed on the next day of Diwali.  This time the holy festival of Govardhan Puja is on 5th November 2021, Friday.  On this day people worship Govardhan mountain by making cow dung in the courtyard of their house.

Govardhan Puja has a very special importance in Hinduism.  Animal's wealth is worshiped in Govardhan Puja.  Govardhan Puja is also known as Annakoot.  In Sanatan Dharma, the cow is considered to be the form of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, hence special worship of cows and calves is done on this day.  It is said that this festival started in Dwapar Yuga.  According to mythology, the worship of Govardhan is associated with Lord Krishna.  It is said that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain on his little finger to protect the Gokul residents from the wrath of Indradev, which protected all the Gokul residents and broke Indra's pride.  Since then the tradition of celebrating this festival is going on.

When is Govardhan Puja celebrated??

Govardhan Puja is performed on the next day of Diwali festival.  On this occasion people in Mathura also circumambulate Govardhan Parvat.  On this day, according to tradition, people worship Govardhan mountain by making cow dung in their homes.  Food and new crops are also worshiped on Govardhan.  That is why it is also called Annakoot.

Govardhan Puja Muhurta–

Govardhan is worshiped in the early morning.  On this day, after getting up in the morning and taking bath, worship should be started. Before worshiping on this occasion, the Govardhan Parvat should be made from cow dung and worshiped.  At the time of worship food, milk, lava, sweets etc. should be offered on Govardhan mountain.  According to the Panchang, on 05 November 2021, Pratipada date will start at 02:44 in the morning and will end at 11:14 in the night.  Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on 5th November only.

Govardhan Puja Method–

On this day there is a law to worship Govardhan mountain, cow, Lord Vishwakarma and Shri Krishna.  In such a situation, take a bath before sunrise in the morning and wear clean and neat clothes. In the courtyard of the house, build Govardhan Parvat with cow dung and decorate it with flowers, put milk, curd, batter etc. in an earthen pot in the middle of the mountain and distribute it as prasad after worshiping.  During the worship, light incense, lamps etc. on the Govardhan mountain made by cow dung. Let we tell you that Govardhan Puja is performed both in the morning and in the evening.  After worshiping Govardhan, circumambulate the Govardhan mountain.

Avoid doing these things during govardhan pooja–

1. Do not do Govardhan Puja or Annakoot Puja in a closed room.  Because Govardhan Puja and Annakoot Puja are done in open space only.
2.While worshiping cows on this day, do not forget to worship Lord Shri Krishna and your Ishta Devta at all.
3. Do not forget to see the moon on this occasion.
4. Do not circumambulate Govardhan wearing dirty clothes.
5. All the members of the family should gather at one place and worship Govardhan together.
6. On this occasion, no member of the family should wear black or blue clothes during the worship.
7. No animal, bird should be harassed on this occasion.
8. No tree should be cut or uprooted on this day.
9. On the occasion of Govardhan Puja, one should avoid causing trouble in the house.
10. No old man should be insulted on this occasion.
