The story of Takshak Raj is found in this temple. Legend has it that Takshak had done severe penance to please Mahadev. Pleased with the penance, Mahadev made Takshak the god of snakes and also gave Takshak the boon of immortality. After this Nagraj started living with Takshak Mahadev. But before residing in Mahakal, he had a wish that when he is in solitude, he should not disturb him.
