The ritual should be started by doing dhyana (meditation).
Lord Ganesha should be invoked.
You should pray with folded hands.
Light an oil lamp and place it on the altar in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha.
One should invoke the Lord by reciting Mantra Aarti.

Ekadantaya Vidyamahe, Vakratundaya Dheemah Tanno Danti Prachodayat
Water, clothes, Kalava, Janeu, Akshat, turmeric, kumkum, sandalwood, flowers, Durva grass, and incense sticks are offered to the Lord, and Naivedya containing modak is offered. The fast is ended after sighting the moon and offering arghya.
Chaturthi Puja Significance
Lord Ganesha is one of the most worshiped deities in Hinduism and is also known as Vighnaharta, which means, the remover of obstacles. His symbolic idol has the head of an elephant with a curved trunk and large ears on a large human body. All these are supposed to reflect the qualities of life and salvation.
