Masik Durgashtami 2021: Rituals
On the day, devotees get up early in the morning and make several offerings to Goddess Durga in the form of flowers, Chandan, dhoop, religious chants. Fasting is an important part of the ritual. It is observed by both men and women. Durgashtami is incomplete without reading Durga Chalisa and Durga Ashtami Vrat Katha.
Devotees visit the goddess’s temple to offer their extended prayers and offerings. Food and Dakshina are given to Brahmins after completing the puja rituals. There is a custom of sowing barley seeds in some parts of the country. After the seeds are 3-5 inches tall, they are offered to the Goddess.
