Guru Nanak Jayanti is a big festival for Sikhism. This year, on November 19, the festival of Guru Nanak Jayanti (Guru Nanak Jayanti 2021) will be celebrated with great pomp. Diwali is celebrated on the new moon of Kartik month and fifteen days after that i.e. on the full moon day of Kartik (Kartik Purnima 2021 Date) is celebrated on Guru Nanak Jayanti. History of Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Dev was the first Guru of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Dev ji was born on 1469 AD. Nanak ji was born on Kartik Purnima in 1469 in a village named Talwandi situated on the banks of the Ravi river in Punjab (Pakistan) region. However, now this birth place of Guru Nanak ji is now in Nankana Sahib present in Punjab province of Pakistan.
 
Now the name of this place is known as Nanak Dev. Here people from all over the country and abroad come to visit the famous Gurdwara Nankana Sahib. It is said that this Gurudwara 'Nankana Sahib' was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the king of the Sikh Empire.

Who was Guru Nanak ji

Guru Nanak Dev ji considered idol worship as meaningless and was always against the customs and rituals. This is the reason that it is said that Guru Nanak Ji had laid the foundation of Sikh society. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first guru of the Sikh community, is also specially worshiped for this reason. Guru Nanak Dev is called by his devotees Nanak Dev, Baba Nanak and Nanak Shah.
 
Not only this, it is said that Nanak Lama is also called in Ladakh and Tibet region. Nanak ji died on 22 September 1539 AD. He made his disciple Bhai Lahna his successor before his death, who later came to be known as Guru Angad Dev.
