गुरुरग्निर्द्विजातीनां वर्णानां ब्राह्मणो गुरुः। 
पतिरेव गुरुः स्त्रीणां सर्वस्याभ्यगतो गुर ||
Gururagnirdvijaatinam varnanam brahmin guruh.
Patirev guru: feminine sarvasyabhaygato guru ||
 
As per the fourth chapter of Acharya Chanakya's Niti Shastra, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas are born twice. One time from the mother's womb and the second time from the Guru's knowledge. That is why they are known as Dwijati.
