It is believed that Lord Shiva's favorite drink is bhaang, which is made from crushed hemp leaves. Lord Shiva is usually meditating and drinking bhaang improves concentration. Therefore, offering bhaang will please Lord Shiva. It is also said that the drink helps to cure many ailments and get rid of all sorts of pain. Another belief says that during Samudra Manthan (समुद्र मंथन), when Shivaji drank poison to save the universe, later on, bhaang was offered to him among other ayurvedic medicines to treat him. But he refused and drank the poison, taking all the negativity and worries of the world inside him.
