Narasimha Jayanti is another important festival among Hindus and is celebrated on Vaishakh Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha. Narasimha Jayanti will be celebrated on Saturday, May 14. Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, where he appeared as Nar-lion i.e. the face was like a lion and the body was like that of a human. He killed the demon Hiranyakashipu on this day. On the day of Narasimha Jayanti, devotees also keep fast for the sake of Lord Vishnu. According to the beliefs, Narasimha appeared on Chaturdashi at sunset and that is why worship is done during those hours. The purpose of Narasimha Jayanti is to remove unrighteousness and walk on the path of Dharma. Dharma is to do right deeds and not to harm anyone.
On this day special worship is done with the idol or picture of Lord Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi.
The devotee should wake up early in the Brahma Muhurta and take a bath. Clean clothes should be worn.
Devotees should worship Shri Vishnu and offer gram dal and jaggery. In worship, items like flowers, sweets, kumkum, saffron, and coconut are offered to the deity.
Fasting on this day begins at sunrise and continues till the sunrise of the next day.
It is considered auspicious to recite Narasimha Mantra with Rudraksha garland to please God and get the benefits of worship. It is good to donate clothes and sesame seeds to the poor on this day.
