- According to Garuda Purana, when a person’s life comes out, the Yamdoots take his soul to Yamalok and there he is shown all that he has done in his life. During this, the soul stays in Yamlok for about 24 hours. After this the eunuchs leave him among his family members. After this, the soul of the deceased person keeps wandering around his family members because he does not have enough strength to travel from the world of death to Yamalok.
- Meanwhile, the relatives regularly do Pind Daan for the soul of the deceased. According to Garuda Purana, the Pind Daan performed for 10 days after death, various parts of the dead soul are formed. On the 11th and 12th day Pind Daan creates flesh and skin on the body, then on the 13th day when the thirteenth is done, then the Pind Daan done in the name of the deceased decides the journey till Yamaloka. Pind donation gives strength to the soul and it walks on its feet and completes the journey from the world of death to Yamalok
- It takes a year for the soul to reach Yamaloka from the land of death. It is believed that the Pind Daan done by the family members in 13 days is given to the dead soul in the form of food for a year. By feeding at least 13 brahmins on the thirteenth day, the soul gets freedom from the phantom vagina. At the same time, his family members become mourning free. Whereas the dead soul in whose name Pind Daan is not done, on the day of the thirteenth, the Yamdoots forcibly drag him to Yamalok. In such a situation, the soul has to suffer a lot during the journey. Therefore, the thirteenth is considered necessary for the peace of the soul of the deceased.
