This holy month is the holiest month for the devotees of Lord Shiva. Because of their devotion, they consciously choose to worship Lord Shiva in this Sawan month and their devotion is filled with endless love. They believe that Lord Shiva will bestow them with prosperity and everlasting happiness. As a result, nothing can stop the devotees from expressing their deep adoration for Mahadev during Sawan.

Undying love for lord Shiva
During the holy month, many devotees go on an annual pilgrimage to seek his blessings. The pilgrimage, which has been postponed this year due to COVID-19, is very challenging. Devotees collect water from the Ganges River and offer it to Shiva temples. They go to various places including some difficult terrains like Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to fetch water.
Walking barefoot with kavads (special vessels containing the holy water of the Ganges) on their shoulders, the devotees proceed towards their destination, ignoring excruciating physical pain. His intense devotion gives him such great endurance. By undertaking this difficult journey, they display their undying love for Lord Shiva. The devotees seem to have become like Lord Shiva and are filling them with courage.
It is his devotion that pushes him beyond physical limits to serve his Lord Shiva. It is the celebratory surrender of his whole self to him. Prayerful devotion is also manifested through their sattvic lifestyle and daily prayers. Many devotees practice fasting on Mondays or even throughout the month. They want to be close to Lord Shiva, persevere and spend time in prayer and meditation.

Month of blessing
The scriptures say that Lord Shiva can be pleased quickly and Saawan is the best month to please him. Moreover, he can be pacified by anyone and hence he has a name 'Ashutosh' - one who is very quick to please. His devotees belong to all castes and creeds and walks of life. Lord Shiva loves everyone and fulfils their wishes.
He fulfils the materialistic desires of the devotees by giving them the best of blessings. He blesses the simple heart with religious fervour, brings peace to pious devotees, and connects the seekers who meditate on him.
