What was the Mythical story behind Shradh paksha
It is said that when Danveer Karna died in the war of Mahabharat and his spirit reached nirvana, he was given halcyons and ornaments to eat instead of methodical food. He was Frustrated by this, Karna’s soul asked Indra dev the reason for the same. Then Indra told Karna that you donated halcyon ornaments to others throughout your entity but never to your forefather. Then Karna replied that he did not know his forefathers and later hearing him, lord Indra gave him permission to return to the planet for an interval of 15 days so that he could contribute food to his forefathers. This 15-day period is known as shrad or pitru paksha.
Significance of shradh paksha
According to garuda purana the spirits that don’t get pind daan, tarpan and so ahead twist desultorily on the planet. Recognition of shradh paksha
In the Hindu religion, it is considered very important to perform shradh after the death of their relatives. Without shradh, the dead person does not get salvation. On the other hand, it is also believed that performing shradh for ancestors during pitru paksha makes them happy.
During the pitru paksha, yamraj orders the ancestors to meet their family members and sets them free. If shradh puja of ancestors is not done during this time, then their soul is very sad and they may also get angry.
